Widgets Anywhere

A (very) long time ago, Android introduced a feature to allow you to show certain widgets on the lock screen. For some reason, this useful feature was removed with the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, confining widgets to the home screen only.

While some manufacturers, such as Samsung, have brought back limited versions of lock screen widgets, you’re usually limited to the widgets the manufacturer has already created for you.

Well, no more! Lockscreen Widgets brings back the functionality of yore, with some extra features. Note that Lockscreen Widgets is not designed to function on the Always-On Display.

Lockscreen Widgets appears as a paged "frame" on top of your lock screen.
Add a widget by tapping the plus button in the frame. This plus button will always be the last page.
Each widget you add gets its own page, or you can have multiple widgets per page.
You can press, hold, and drag widgets to reorder them.
You can press and hold widgets to remove them or edit their size.
Tap the frame with two fingers to enter the editing mode where you can resize and move the frame.
Tap the frame with three fingers to temporarily hide it. It will show up again once the display turns off and back on.
Any home screen widget can be added as a lock screen widget.

Lockscreen Widgets also includes an optional Widget Drawer!

Widget Drawer has a handle you can swipe to bring it up from anywhere, or you can use the Tasker integration or shortcut to open it however you want. The drawer is a vertically scrolling list of widgets that can be resized and moved the same way as in the Lockscreen Widgets frame.

And this is all without ADB or root! All the basic privileges can be granted without even thinking about using a computer. Unfortunately, with Android 13 and later, you may need to use ADB or Shizuku to enable Masked Mode.

On the topic of privileges, these are the more sensitive permissions that Lockscreen Widgets needs to function:

Accessibility. In order to display on the lock screen, Lockscreen Widgets’ Accessibility Service must be enabled. You will be prompted to enable it if needed in the initial setup, and any time you open the app.
Notification Listener. This permission is only required if you want the widget frame to hide when notifications are displayed. You will be prompted if it’s needed.
Dismiss Keyguard. In order to improve the user experience, Lockscreen Widgets will dismiss the lock screen (or show the security input view) when it detects an Activity being launched from a widget, or when you press the "Add Widget" button. This will not compromise your device’s security in any way.

Lockscreen Widgets only works on Android Lollipop 5.1 and later because the necessary system features for displaying on the lock screen didn’t exist in Lollipop 5.0. Sorry, 5.0 users.

The home screen is intentionally minimal: a large clock and date, battery status, optional weather, configurable favorite app labels, and a configurable right-side shortcut rail. Tap the clock, date, or weather to open the apps you configure for each in settings. Primary interactions are gesture-based: swipe up to open the app drawer, swipe down to expand the notification shade, and swipe left or right to launch shortcut targets.

App Drawer

The drawer supports quick search, categories you define in settings, and optional alphabetical or most-opened app order. When only one app matches a search, Fokus can launch it directly. Optional category sidebar mode replaces the inline search bar with a vertical category rail; use the search icon when you need text search. Long-pressing an app offers add to home, rename, hide, and uninstall.

Dot search keeps you in that same field for web or in-app search. Type a period, a space, and your query, for example ". cats"; that searches in your browser by default until you change the default under Dot search in settings. For letter shortcuts, type a period, one lowercase letter, a space, and your query, for example ".a coffee" when you assigned the letter "a" there. Dot search settings also list search-capable apps and lets you add HTTPS or deep-link URL templates with a placeholder for the query.

Customization

Edit home apps, configure right-side shortcuts (including launcher shortcut actions), hide or rename apps, choose a custom font, and manage launcher data from the settings screen.

Weather

Weather is powered by Open-Meteo. No account or API key is required. Results are cached for 30 minutes. Location permission is optional and only used for local weather.

Work Profile

Work profile apps are shown alongside personal apps in the drawer when a work profile is active on the device.

Private Space (Android 15+)

On Android 15 and above (API 35+), Fokus supports Android's Private Space with lock/unlock controls and a separate section in the app drawer for private apps when the space is unlocked.

Optional Device Controls

These features only work if you turn on accessibility for Fokus in Android settings.

Double tap to lock can turn off the screen from empty home space. Return home after long lock can bring Fokus back to the foreground on unlock once the device stayed locked longer than a threshold you choose.

First-Run Onboarding

On first launch, Fokus walks you through welcome, optional location permission, default-launcher setup, home-screen customization, swipe-shortcut setup, and quick gesture tips.

Permissions

Fokus asks only for what it uses.

That covers uninstall flows from the launcher, internet access for weather and dot search, optional coarse location for local weather, and hidden-profile access for Private Space on supported versions. It also covers expanding the notification shade from swipe-down gestures, battery-optimization prompts for optional long-lock behavior, and applying wallpapers you choose in settings.

DresSecureComms is a FOSS, de-Googled, all-in-one secure communications app. It works fully offline for SMS and calls, with no Google services and no trackers.

Features:

Messages: a private offline SMS client. Send and receive normal texts, or turn on encryption per message. Encrypted messages use AES-256-GCM and only work between two people who both use this app and share the same key. Keys are set per contact, so every person can have their own code. Includes photo sharing, group messages, search, and contact suggestions when you start a new message.
Calls: dial any number or call a saved contact over your normal carrier line. The call log is searchable, the screen turns off when you hold the phone to your ear, and you can block or unblock any number straight from the log.
Spam Shield: screens incoming calls before your phone rings. Rejects premium rate numbers, silences short codes, and flags callers faking the first digits of your own number. Saved contacts always ring through, and everything it blocks is listed in Settings so you can undo it. It runs entirely on the device, so no number is ever sent anywhere to be checked.
Contacts: an encrypted local vault, stored with the Android Keystore. Add contacts by hand or import them from the device.
Threat Scan: check a URL against VirusTotal using your own free API key.
File Scan: check a single file, one app, or every app on your device against VirusTotal. Only the SHA-256 fingerprint is sent, and that is checked against seventy or more antivirus engines at once. If VirusTotal has never seen a file, you can choose to upload that one file for analysis. It always asks first, and a sweep of your apps never uploads anything.
Metadata Wipe: strip GPS and EXIF data from a photo before you share it.
Geo Spoofer: set a mock GPS location, or have the app pick a random one.
App Lock: biometric or device PIN.
Block Screenshots: stop screenshots and screen recording inside the app.

Encryption covers SMS text only. Pictures and group messages are sent unencrypted for now, the same as any normal messaging app, so they arrive readable on any phone.

Storage permissions:

On Android 6-9, WizeStream can optionally use a legacy storage backend instead of Android's Storage Access Framework. The Network Survey app enables logging cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and/or GNSS information to a log file (GeoPackage or CSV format). For cellular records it supports logging GSM, CDMA, UMTS, LTE, and NR records.

You might receive an alert from anti-malware software indicating that Network Survey sends SMS messages in private manner to deceive users. This is NOT the case. SMS permission is necessary for some of the logging that is done. Just to be clear though, Network Survey does not send any text messages, nor does it install anything. In fact, you can deny all the SMS permissions if you are not using the CDR (call detail record) logging feature. The SMS permissions are only requested the first time you turn on CDR logging. This app has the ability to access your device's location in the background. The background location permission is needed to start Network Survey at boot. You can deny this permission if you don't want to start Network Survey at phone boot. The cellular logging feature logs several details about the current serving cell, and then some basic information about the neighbor cells. This app won't log all 5 cellular protocols at once. Instead, it will only log information about the protocols that are current connected. If logging for one specific protocol is desired, then the phone must be locked to that protocol (try using *#*#4636#*#* from the dial pad).

The cellular survey records can be streamed to either a gRPC server or a MQTT broker. This is not on by default and a gRPC server or MQTT Broker needs to be setup for this feature to work.

A bonus feature of this app is its ability to create a Call Detail Record (CDR) file. If enabled, CDR events are logged to a CSV file.

The app also has a calculator that converts an LTE Cell ID to the corresponding eNodeB ID and Sector ID, and a calculator that converts an LTE PCI to the corresponding Primary Sync Sequence (PSS) and Secondary Sync Sequence (SSS).

An app which displays an overlay of a map along with the coordinates on screen which can be used via screen recordings (uses mapbox or geoaplify apis).

Have tried manual video recording options but the overlay wouldn't get saved to the final recording properly or needs frame by frame processing to insert the overlay which would be resource intensive.

Double tapping the screen opens up the settings menu where the geoapify and mapbox api keys can be inserted. You will have to create an account and just add the api key from the website. (Have tried various leaflet options but none of them worked as intended..)

Recents is a replacement for the default system "recent apps" menu, especially useful if the system utility is unavailable (e.g. after removing the default launcher). It aims to provide all the system features, including launching the last launched app, displaying all apps by last use time and killing selected or all apps.

How to use

Launch "Recent apps" screen Assign the app to a custom shortcut (e.g. double-click of the power button) in your system settings. Upon triggering the shortcut, you will be shown a list of all your apps, sorted by last launch time. Alternatively, you could simply place the app in a convenient spot in your launcher.
Launch last app The app includes a custom shortcut, which (or its activity, LastAppActivity) can also be assigned to a custom shortcut, using any shortcut assigner. If you trigger the shortcut, you will be taken to the most recent app (excluding launchers and the current app), just like when double-tapping the "recents" button on a 3-button navbar.
Kill apps (Shizuku or root required) If you have Shizuku or root access, you may retain the functionality of killing apps. You can either kill apps individually, or use the "KILL ALL" button. Note: some system apps cannot be killed this way.
Setup your custom whitelist Don't want to show a bunch of OEM bloat on the list? Don't want to kill your alarm clock? Don't want to launch an app even if it was the last one launched? Mark them in settings as non-showing, non-killable or non-launchable.
Display running apps (Shizuku or root required) You may toggle between a full list of installed apps or just the running ones in settings. Bear in mind that "running apps" are defined by having an active task, which may be a bit different to how the system "recent apps" screen treats them.
Pin apps You may pin selected apps above the list. They will stay there regardless of their recency or their running status. Pinning an app doesn't mean that it's gone from the actual list and doesn't affect the "launch last app" functionality.
Quick actions Upon holding a list item you can display a list of quick actions, including:
- launching app info
- uninstalling app
- launching app in split-screen mode
- launching app in free-form mode
- setting whitelist parameters (show/kill/launch)
