Storage permissions:

On Android 6-9, WizeStream can optionally use legacy storage instead of Android's Storage Access Framework. Some Fire TV devices also use it because of a platform SAF issue. It allows reading existing files and saving downloads and backups. On Android 10 and newer, SAF is always used and these permissions are not requested.

Camera permission:

WizeStream optionally uses the CAMERA permission only when the user selects Scan pairing code for local device synchronization. It lets one device scan the one-time QR code displayed by another for secure pairing. The permission is requested only when the scanner opens. WizeStream does not capture, store, or upload camera images, and camera hardware is optional.

Oksigenia SOS is an offline-first personal safety app for outdoor sports and high-risk environments. No account, no cloud, no Google Services required — everything runs on your device.

When something goes wrong, it sends an SMS alert with your GPS coordinates to your emergency contact. No internet connection needed.

Smart Fall Detection (Smart Sentinel)

The accelerometer monitors you continuously at high frequency. A sudden impact triggers an observation window. If sustained walking movement is detected during that window, the alarm is dismissed automatically — false positives from drops or normal jolts won't fire the SOS. If no rhythmic movement is detected, the SOS is sent.

Activity profiles

Pick the profile that matches what you're doing — Smart Sentinel adapts its sensitivity:

Trekking / Hiking: balanced default for walking outdoors.
Running (road): tuned for the sustained high-G cadence of road running, with an adaptive rhythm detector.
Trail running / MTB: higher impact threshold for terrain with constant vibration.
Mountaineering: longer observation window for slow recoveries on technical ground.

Send your GPS position by SMS every 30, 60 or 120 minutes. Pause, resume or check in manually at any time — without stopping the monitoring session.

Dying Gasp

About the permissions

Oksigenia SOS asks for sensitive permissions because its job is to call for help when you cannot. Each one maps to a single rescue function:

SMS: sends the alert. SMS is the only channel that works in the mountains without internet.
Location, including "Allow all the time" (background location): when you fall, your phone is in your pocket with the screen off and the app in the background. Without background access, Android can deny a fresh GPS fix at exactly that moment, and the SOS would leave without usable coordinates. Your position is read only when an alert or tracking update is being sent, and it travels exclusively inside the SMS to the contacts you configured — it is never uploaded anywhere. The app's only network use is a version check against a static file on oksigenia.com, which carries no personal data and no location.
Motion sensors / physical activity: fall and inactivity detection.
Battery exemption: so Android doesn't kill the monitoring service mid-route.

A safety app that prioritised permission minimalism over getting your coordinates to a rescuer would be failing at its only job. The privacy guarantee here is structural, not cosmetic: everything stays on the device.

The Network Survey app enables logging cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and/or GNSS information to a log file (GeoPackage or CSV format). For cellular records it supports logging GSM, CDMA, UMTS, LTE, and NR records.

You might receive an alert from anti-malware software indicating that Network Survey sends SMS messages in private manner to deceive users. This is NOT the case. SMS permission is necessary for some of the logging that is done. Just to be clear though, Network Survey does not send any text messages, nor does it install anything. In fact, you can deny all the SMS permissions if you are not using the CDR (call detail record) logging feature. The SMS permissions are only requested the first time you turn on CDR logging. This app has the ability to access your device's location in the background. The background location permission is needed to start Network Survey at boot. You can deny this permission if you don't want to start Network Survey at phone boot. The cellular logging feature logs several details about the current serving cell, and then some basic information about the neighbor cells. This app won't log all 5 cellular protocols at once. Instead, it will only log information about the protocols that are current connected. If logging for one specific protocol is desired, then the phone must be locked to that protocol (try using *#*#4636#*#* from the dial pad).

The cellular survey records can be streamed to either a gRPC server or a MQTT broker. This is not on by default and a gRPC server or MQTT Broker needs to be setup for this feature to work.

A bonus feature of this app is its ability to create a Call Detail Record (CDR) file. If enabled, CDR events are logged to a CSV file.

SWOB ("SMSWithoutBorders", AKA "SMS Sithout Borders") is a platform which enables users with a smartphone to communicate with online third-party platforms using SMS messages.

A typical use-case of the platforms is sending out emails from platforms such as Gmail accounts. This becomes a useful tool in cases where access to the internet is limited or completely unavailable. Usage of SWOB entails having a proactive approach to maintaining your communications; the features that SWOB supports require the users to take delebrate actions prior to usage.

Our goal is not to replace the internet; for the most part, the internet is an already efficient method of communication with many abilities that surpass what's possible with simple SMS. Unfortunately, we still have a good portion of telecom users in the world who will have to rely on SMS for tasks built for the internet. Based on value, internet based communications are cheaper than SMS based communications. We are using SWOB on the basis of accessibility of a communication medium.

Wie es funktioniert

Die App analysiert alle möglichen Teilstrecken einer Verbindung und findet durch dynamische Programmierung die günstigste Kombination von Tickets, die die gesamte Strecke abdeckt. Dabei werden auch Rabatte durch BahnCard und Deutschland-Ticket berücksichtigt.

Wichtiger Hinweis zur Funktionsweise: Diese App nutzt keine offizielle API der Deutschen Bahn. Stattdessen simuliert sie die Abfragen, die ein Browser an bahn.de senden würde, um die nötigen Fahrplandaten und Preise zu erhalten. Da für die Analyse vieler möglicher Teilstrecken eine große Anzahl von Anfragen notwendig ist, würde ein zentraler Server (z.B. eine Webseite) sehr schnell von der Deutschen Bahn blockiert werden. Um dies zu vermeiden, sendet jede Installation der App die Anfragen direkt von Ihrem Gerät. Dadurch verteilt sich die Last auf viele individuelle Nutzer, und die Funktionalität kann erhalten bleiben. Es gibt daher auch keine Webseiten-Version dieser App.

DresSecureComms is a FOSS, de-Googled, all-in-one secure communications app. It works fully offline for SMS and calls, with no Google services and no trackers.

Features:

Messages: a private offline SMS client. Send and receive normal texts, or turn on encryption per message. Encrypted messages use AES-256-GCM and only work between two people who both use this app and share the same key. Keys are set per contact, so every person can have their own code. Includes photo sharing, group messages, search, and contact suggestions when you start a new message.
Calls: dial any number or call a saved contact over your normal carrier line. The call log is searchable, the screen turns off when you hold the phone to your ear, and you can block or unblock any number straight from the log.
Spam Shield: screens incoming calls before your phone rings. Rejects premium rate numbers, silences short codes, and flags callers faking the first digits of your own number. Saved contacts always ring through, and everything it blocks is listed in Settings so you can undo it. It runs entirely on the device, so no number is ever sent anywhere to be checked.
Contacts: an encrypted local vault, stored with the Android Keystore. Add contacts by hand or import them from the device.
Threat Scan: check a URL against VirusTotal using your own free API key.
File Scan: check a single file, one app, or every app on your device against VirusTotal. Only the SHA-256 fingerprint is sent, and that is checked against seventy or more antivirus engines at once. If VirusTotal has never seen a file, you can choose to upload that one file for analysis. It always asks first, and a sweep of your apps never uploads anything.
Metadata Wipe: strip GPS and EXIF data from a photo before you share it.
Geo Spoofer: set a mock GPS location, or have the app pick a random one.
App Lock: biometric or device PIN.
Block Screenshots: stop screenshots and screen recording inside the app.

Encryption covers SMS text only. Pictures and group messages are sent unencrypted for now, the same as any normal messaging app, so they arrive readable on any phone.

Fokus Launcher

Fokus Launcher is an Android launcher for people who want a simpler, cleaner default experience. It focuses on fast access to time, weather, and core apps with minimal visual noise.

Home Screen

The home screen is intentionally minimal: a large clock and date, battery status, optional weather, configurable favorite app labels, and a configurable right-side shortcut rail. Tap the clock, date, or weather to open the apps you configure for each in settings. Primary interactions are gesture-based: swipe up to open the app drawer, swipe down to expand the notification shade, and swipe left or right to launch shortcut targets.

App Drawer

The drawer supports quick search, categories you define in settings, and optional alphabetical or most-opened app order. When only one app matches a search, Fokus can launch it directly. Optional category sidebar mode replaces the inline search bar with a vertical category rail; use the search icon when you need text search. Long-pressing an app offers add to home, rename, hide, and uninstall.

Dot search keeps you in that same field for web or in-app search. Type a period, a space, and your query, for example ". cats"; that searches in your browser by default until you change the default under Dot search in settings. For letter shortcuts, type a period, one lowercase letter, a space, and your query, for example ".a coffee" when you assigned the letter "a" there. Dot search settings also list search-capable apps and lets you add HTTPS or deep-link URL templates with a placeholder for the query.

Customization

Edit home apps, configure right-side shortcuts (including launcher shortcut actions), hide or rename apps, choose a custom font, and manage launcher data from the settings screen.

Weather

Weather is powered by Open-Meteo. No account or API key is required. Results are cached for 30 minutes. Location permission is optional and only used for local weather.

Work Profile

Work profile apps are shown alongside personal apps in the drawer when a work profile is active on the device.

Private Space (Android 15+)

On Android 15 and above (API 35+), Fokus supports Android's Private Space with lock/unlock controls and a separate section in the app drawer for private apps when the space is unlocked.

Optional Device Controls

These features only work if you turn on accessibility for Fokus in Android settings.

Double tap to lock can turn off the screen from empty home space. Return home after long lock can bring Fokus back to the foreground on unlock once the device stayed locked longer than a threshold you choose.

First-Run Onboarding

On first launch, Fokus walks you through welcome, optional location permission, default-launcher setup, home-screen customization, swipe-shortcut setup, and quick gesture tips.

Permissions

Fokus asks only for what it uses.

That covers uninstall flows from the launcher, internet access for weather and dot search, optional coarse location for local weather, and hidden-profile access for Private Space on supported versions. It also covers expanding the notification shade from swipe-down gestures, battery-optimization prompts for optional long-lock behavior, and applying wallpapers you choose in settings.

PublicArtExplorer erlaubt dir Kunst im öffentlichen Raum zu finden. Die App nutzt deine Lokation um Skulpturen, Murals und andere Kunstwerke in der Nähe anzuzeigen und die Details zum Kunstwerk und Künstler verügbar zu machen.

Die Daten des PublicArtExplorer’s stammen aus den offenen Platformen OpenStreetMap und Wikipedia. Diese Platformen werden von einer globalen Gemeinschaft von Freiwilligen aufgebaut und gepflegt, jeder kann sich beteiligen:: sollten dir fehlende Daten auffallen oder du neue Kunstwerke entdecken die noch nicht in der Datenbank enthalten sind, bist du eingeladen die fehlenden Informationen direkt in der OpenStreetMap oder Wikipedia beizutragen.
